BIOGRAPHY

Wouter van der Wal graduated in 2005 at the conservatory in Groningen. In the 4 years that he was studying he specialized in compositions of tonal music for ensembles and orchestras. Inspired by composers of the beginning of the 20th century, he wrote pieces of music for ensembles in the mental outlook of Kurt Weill and Claude Debussy.

At the College of Art (Hogeschool der Kunsten) in Hilversum he experimented with technology and composing without a steady metre. He wrote music for the central hall in the new University Library in Utrecht. He also wrote music for electro acoustic ensemble together with Richard Veenstra. In 2007, Wouter graduated with a Master of Music specialized in Composition in Context. This means that he can work within different compositional contexts.

Wouter writes music for all different kinds of projects. These projects vary from music for animation and education to composition for modern dance. This year Wouter wrote music for six animations that have been broadcast on Dutch public television. In his autonomous work, he explores the possibilities for music technology within composition, although he still composes with a tonal character.
